The Mystery of Lawlessness
2 Thessalonians 2:7 by Steve Krause

The Mystery of Lawlessness

2 Thessalonians 2:7

Tonight’s study is entitled the “Mystery of Lawlessness.” This phrase, “the mystery of lawlessness” is taken from 2 Thessalonians 2:7. “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.”

This verse in context, reveals that the mystery of lawlessness is already at work in the world. A thorough study reveals that He who restrains, is the Holy Spirit working in the lives of believers. When is the spirit that restrains to be taken away? We know from scripture that this happens just prior to the tribulation period, (which is that last seven-year period immediately preceding the physical return of our Lord Jesus Christ to the Earth). The tribulation will not begin until all true Christians are removed from the Earth at the rapture of the church. The fact that lawlessness and sin permeate this world is obvious to anyone with an ounce of spiritual discernment. Just turn on the news, or read a paper. Evil seems to have been put into warp drive these past few years. Even rank non-believers know that the world is headed for a train wreck and that lawlessness is increasing at a seemingly exponential rate. Jesus said in Matthew Chapter 24 that in these last days, lawlessness would be increased and most people’s love would grow cold. This is the exact situation that we find ourselves in today’s world.

Why is the world in such a state? Why is there so much sin and evil? Where is this all headed? Is all this evil and lawlessness just random acts, or is there a pattern or goal to it all?  What is the mystery of lawlessness that the Holy Spirit working through the church now restrains?

This bend toward lawlessness and rebellion has existed in humanity since the first sin in the Garden of Eden, with its goal being to thwart the plan of God. To answer the question of how this rebellion against God came about and where it is headed, we must go back in time to when evil and rebellion had their origin, back to a time before man and the creation of the Earth, to a time when the Sons of God (who are the holy angels), sang the praises of God in the heavenly realms.

Turn to Ezekiel 28: 12- 19. "Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "You had the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.” You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: The ruby, the topaz and the diamond; the beryl, the onyx and the jasper; the lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; and the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, Was in you. On the day that you were created they were prepared. "You were the anointed cherub who covers, and I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked in the midst of the stones of fire. "You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until unrighteousness was found in you. “By the abundance of your trade you were internally filled with violence, and you sinned; therefore, I have cast you as profane from the mountain of God. And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. "Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I put you before kings, that they may see you. "By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries. Therefore, I have brought fire from the midst of you; it has consumed you, and I have turned you to ashes on the Earth in the eyes of all who see you. "All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you; you have become terrified and you will cease to be forever."

A second passage of scripture adds more details. Turn to Isaiah 14:11-15. 'Your pomp and the music of your harps have been brought down to Sheol; Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you and worms are your covering.' "How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, you who have weakened the nations! "But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north. ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.' These two set of scriptures acquaint us with the most powerful, beautiful, intelligent, musically gifted, indeed the most perfect being that God has ever created. He was probably the worship leader in Heaven second in rank to God alone. His name was beautiful, star of the morning, or son of the dawn. He was the shining one. We know him today as Lucifer, Satan, the devil, deceiver, evil one, enemy and adversary.

Lucifer the archangel was perfect and blameless in every way, until unrighteousness was found in him. Pride was the cause of his corruption and pride was his downfall. He was puffed up with his abilities, appearance, and wisdom. As Isaiah tells us in chapter 14, he said in his heart five fatal I will statements. They were, I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars (that is the angels) of God, I will sit on the mount of the assembly in the recesses of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. This is the original source of all sin and rebellion in God’s perfect creation. The book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ reveals to us in chapter 12 that Lucifer was not alone in his rebellion, but was joined by one third of the Holy Angels. There were many far-reaching results that sprung from this first rebellion.

God in His wisdom, chose not to give these rebels a second chance. After all, they were all in the very presence of and had access to God Himself. There was no faith involved, no doubts; this rebellion was their conscious choice to overthrow God, their Creator, in favor of Lucifer. There is no possible forgiveness for Lucifer and his angelic rebels. God created hell and the lake of fire to be their final place of punishment and judgment; there to be incarcerated forever, eternally separated from the presence of God.

It may be, that Lucifer hurled the accusation at God that He was unloving and unfair, and that God’s answer to that accusation was to create the mass energy universe that we know; which includes the Earth, all its myriad life forms, and man as the crown jewel.

God, being omnipotent, knew what He was doing by creating man. Nothing surprises God. He had His plan set from before the ages of eternity past. God by creating Man in His image, and giving him a body, soul and spirit along with the terrifying gift of choice, knew that man would rebel. His awesome wonderful plan, and the answer to Lucifer’s false accusation (that He was unfair and unloving) were to display and prove both His infinite love and fairness by redeeming sinful rebellious man.

Now Lucifer is supremely intelligent, wise, beautiful, and powerful, yet he is a created being and no match for God. God could have ended Lucifer’s and his angel’s rebellion at any time and sent the whole lot of them to hell. But God in His infinite wisdom has chosen to demonstrate His mercy and longsuffering both to the angels and man. Satan, now God’s mortal enemy, is opposed to the plan of God and actively fights against Him and His holy angels. There is spiritual warfare taking place both in heaven and on the Earth. There are many places in the scriptures where it is mentioned. Daniel chapter nine is an excellent example for you to check out. Still, even in his rebellion and blind hatred of God, Satan is being unwittingly used by God to carry out his purposes and to fulfill His plan.

We are all familiar with the fall of man revealed to us in Genesis chapter 3. The fall was a terrible thing, and God used Satan to bring it about. God knew man would fall, it was a part of His plan for man all along. God’s purpose is to display to man and the angels His infinite love and fairness.

In the closing verses of Genesis Ch. 3, God reveals that Satan’s ultimate downfall and man’s redemption would be carried out by the seed of the woman. In verse 15 God states, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel." The seed of the woman is a misnomer, because in human biology we all know that the male has the seed, and the female the egg. This particular seed would be someone very special. He would need to have a virgin birth. Satan now has two reasons to hate man, one because God holds man so dear, and two because God has decided and revealed that He will use a man to ultimately defeat him. Satan and his followers, now no longer holy angels, but demons, enter their councils of war against God and His Holy Angels, with man and his immortal soul as the prize.

Rebellion is no longer confined to Satan and his demons, but man has also entered the rebellion against God. Man, and woman, through their sin, have also become a participant in the mystery of lawlessness.

Mankind, was given by God dominion over the Earth and all living things upon it. But through Adam and Eve’s sin, the title deed of the Earth has passed from man to Satan. Satan has become the prince of the power of the air and the god of this world. The perfect universe that God created was spoiled; so that even nature itself is no longer perfect but under the ravages of sin.

The effects of sin and lawlessness soon spread, and Cain in his anger, kills his righteous brother Abel. Satan and his evil forces rejoice at the murder, but God gave Seth to Adam and Eve in the place of Abel, and Satan schemed.

We are told in the book of Jude that certain angels left their lawful domain and abandoned their proper abode. They did something so terrible that God has kept them in eternal bonds under darkness, for the judgment of the great day. Turn to genesis Ch. 6. In this chapter, we find that Satan attempts to thwart the plan of God. He has devised a plan, (remember Satan knows that it will be a man who will bring about his ultimate downfall). He attempts to prevent this, by polluting the human gene pool, by having fallen angels mate with human females, so that there would be no true fully human men left, just half breed human demon hybrids, kind of like teenagers. Turn to Genesis 6:1-7.  Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless, his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. The LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."

Here we have the strange account of some of the fallen angels leaving their proper place and taking bodily form on the Earth. They took human woman by force to be their mates. The results of these unholy relations, were unnatural offspring called the Nephilim or the shining ones, they were of a huge physical stature, the scriptures calling them giants, and mighty men of renown. The Hebrew word here, shem, refers to being famous and legendary. It is as if the Bible is indicating that when the reader hears of legends of “demigods”, titans or legendary heroes who were part god, that this is who those “myths” were referring to. These were ‘men’ of superhuman ability and strength. In addition to causing violence and sin in the world, the Nephilim were also corrupting the human bloodline. They were mighty in rebellion and their sin and knew no bounds. The genetic contagion spread among the population, until almost all were infected. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God. Noah was perfect in his generation. His family may have been the last that was purely human and not tainted by the demonic pollution of the gene pool.

We all know the story of Noah and the worldwide flood, and how God saved his family and the land animals by placing them in the ark, while the flood destroyed all life on the land. The flood puts a stop to Satan’s plan of demonic contagion of the human genepool. The flood recedes, Noah and his sons, their wives, and all the animals leave the ark. In vs. 22 of Genesis chapter 8, God commands Noah to be fruitful and multiply and fill the Earth.

Time passes and man multiplies greatly upon the face of the Earth. But man, has disobeyed God, and instead of filling the Earth and spreading out, he has chosen to gather together on the plain of Shinar, that is Babylon, and the whole Earth was united, and used the same language.

Satan had devised another plan. He enables Nimrod, whose name means I rebel, or let us rebel, to become the first world leader. Nimrod, inspired by Satan, has devised the world’s first false religion and he has become its leader, being worshiped as God. Satan’s plan is to obliterate the true worship and knowledge of God and replace it with a counterfeit worship that elevates man and the works of his flesh. The tower is man’s attempt to communicate with the fallen angelic realm through pagan ritual, and achieve godhood. God puts an end to this act of rebellion by confounding the language of men, and scattering them upon the face of the Earth. They stopped building the tower of Babel and the great city Babylon. Nevertheless, it is a fascinating study and a fact that all the world’s false religious systems of works first started and sprang from the false worship which took place at the tower of Babel.

The next big step that God takes is to call an idol worshiping gentile from the city of Ur of the Chaldeans. His name is Abram. Turn to Genesis 12:1-3. Now the LORD said to Abram, " Go forth from your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; And so, you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the Earth will be blessed." Remember the seed of the woman from Genesis chapter 3? God has now revealed the race through which the savior would be born. This made Abram a huge target for Satan. If he could somehow destroy Abram, he could end the plan of God and show Him to be a liar. Satan tried, first with pharaoh taking Sarai as his wife, but God delivered her from him by sending great plagues upon pharaoh’s house, and later Abimelech King of Gerar also takes Sarah for his wife. God intercedes again and Abimelech is warned in a dream to release Sarah, and he does. Abraham finally has his heir, a son, born when he is 100 years old. His name is Isaac; he marries Rebekah and they have twin sons. One is called Esau, and the other, the child of the line of blessing is called Jacob.

Jacob turns out to be quite the ladies’ man and he fathers 12 sons by four different women, two were his wives and two were his wife’s handmaids. As time passes, Jacob’s family unit grows to 70 persons, and there is a severe famine in the land. This and other circumstances cause the family to move to Egypt.

One of Jacob’s sons named Joseph has through a series of God ordained events, been elevated to the second position of power in all Egypt, second only to Pharaoh himself. Jacob, now called Israel, and his whole family settles in Egypt in the best of the land of Ramses, where they are keepers of flocks.

Here in the land of Egypt the sons of Jacob multiply and become the nation of Israel. Jacob on his deathbed prophecies over his sons and it is revealed in Genesis 49:10 that the tribe of Judah is the family from which the savior will be born. Nearly 400 years pass and a new king who did not know Joseph arose over Egypt, and he was afraid, because the nation of Israel had grown mighty and were more numerous than the Egyptians. So, to prevent them from joining their enemies in battle and defeating the Egyptians, they afflicted Israel with bondage and harsh labor and appointed taskmasters over them. Satan was still busy hatching his schemes, and in another attempt to wipe out the nation of Israel, and thus prevent the savior from being born, Satan inspired the pharaoh to order the Hebrew midwives to murder all baby boys as they were born, by throwing them into the Nile River. But the midwives feared God, and disobeyed pharaoh and the people multiplied and became very mighty. Satan’s plan was foiled again.

God raises up a deliverer called Moses, from the family of Levi, and through him God performed many mighty miracles and ten terrible plagues fell upon the Egyptians, until pharaoh was finally forced to let the Israelites go free.

God reveals His laws to Israel through Moses and the worship of God is carried out by the people, God’s presence is visibly with them in the form of a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day.

Despite the mighty miracles and the great works performed by God, the people are afraid to go up and possess the land of Canaan, which God had promised to give to Abraham and his decedents as an everlasting possession. So, the nation of Israel is punished by God for their unbelief, and they must travel in the desert wilderness for 40 years, and all who were above the age of 20 will perish during that time except Joshua and Caleb who were faithful and believing.

The forty years go by, and Moses is dead. Joshua is appointed leader of Israel by God and he is told to take the people and cross the Jordan river and go in and possess the land that God is giving them.

The people do go up to the land and after many years they manage to conquer most of the land that God had promised them. God has given the people a great leader a man after God’s own heart King David. He and his mighty men are fierce in battle and God gives them great victories. In 2 Samuel chapter 7, God reveals to David (who is of the tribe of Judah) that it is his family through which the savior is to be born.

Israel under David’s leadership, becomes a mighty nation with their capital city being the city of Jerusalem. Solomon becomes king after his father David dies, and builds the first temple of God in Jerusalem on the temple mount.

This is the period when the nation of Israel is at its peak. World leaders pay tribute to Solomon the king and seek out his God given gifts of wisdom. This golden age does not last long and when Solomon dies his son Rehoboam becomes king. He is an unwise ruler and afflicts the people with a heavy tax burden. He must have been the first Democrat. The nation revolts and Israel is split into two nations. Israel to the north ruled by King Jeroboam, and Judah in the south ruled by Rehoboam.

The northern kingdom quickly turns to idolatry as their king sets up two golden calves for the people to worship, one at Bethel and the other at Dan.

Satan knows that God hates idolatry and false worship. Satan encourages such worship and the once blessed nation of Israel and Judah enter a historic cycle of idol worship and repentance. The nation of Israel has nothing but wicked idolatrous kings, and the people plunge into paganism. Judah has some good kings, and some bad kings. God sends prophets to warn the people to repent of their continual idolatry but they do not.

God’s loving response, is to get the people’s attention by afflicting them. He sends first the Assyrians to conquer and disperse the northern kingdom of Israel, followed many years later, by the nation of Babylon under king Nebuchadnezzar who takes all the people of Judah captive to Babylon for seventy long years. This captivity finally teaches the people their lesson, and they turn from their national idolatry for good.

The world power of Babylon lasts barely longer than King Nebuchadnezzar himself. The Babylonians are conquered and replaced by the Medes and the Persians.

The book of Esther details Satan’s next big push for the destruction of God’s chosen people the Jews. Satan inspires a high government official named Haman to seek the Jew’s destruction and he gets the Persian king Ahasuerus, to decree a law that on a certain date all Jews are to be put to death. God intercedes through His chosen instrument Esther, and Haman’s wicked plan backfires. Haman is put to death and the Jews are saved. This miraculous deliverance is celebrated to this day in the Jewish feast of Purim. The Media/Persian empire fades and is conquered by the Greeks under Alexander the great.

During this time, God sends many more prophets to the people and He reveals more of His plan about the coming world savior that who will defeat Satan. Turn to Isaiah chapter 7:10-14. Then the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying, "Ask a sign for yourself from the LORD your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven." But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!" Then he said, "Listen now, O house of David! Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well? "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel which means (God with us). So, the savior will be God Himself, born of a virgin. He will be fully God and fully man, yet without the contamination of a sin nature. The Old Testament ends with God promising to send Elijah the prophet to the people. Turn to Malachi 4:5-6. "Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. “He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse." For the next 400 years God is silent and send no prophets to the people. During this period, Alexander the Great dies at the age of thirty, and the Greek world empire is split into four regions, each ruled by the descendants of Alexander’s four top generals.

This Greek empire dominates the known world until the Roman empire takes over, and Jerusalem is conquered in 63 BC. Israel is under the yoke of bondage imposed by the Roman Caesars. Their land is occupied, and they are forced to give tribute to Rome.

God had revealed in the book of Daniel chapter 9:24-25 that this must be the general time of the arrival of the messiah. The best scholarship that I have found, that harmonizes the historic facts, public figures and the events that the bible talks about place Jesus’s birth on or about September 29, 2 BC on the very day of the Feasts of Trumpets.

Satan was prepared with another evil plan. We are all familiar with the story of the Magi of the east following the star that led them to Bethlehem. As they traveled King Herod got word that the messiah was to be born in the city of Bethlehem. Herod, inspired by Satan, had all the male children in Bethlehem two years old and younger put to death in an attempt to preserve his own rule by murdering the messiah. But God warned Joseph, Mary’s husband, to flee to Egypt for protection. They stayed there until Herod died, and then returned to reside in the city of Nazareth. Another one of Satan’s plans foiled. You would think that he would get tired and give up, but not Satan he is consumed by his hate for both God and man.

Satan’s next attempt is that he tempts Jesus Himself to bow down and worship him. He offers Jesus a shortcut, to become the king of the Earth. The only problem is that if Jesus accepts his offer there will be no forgiveness of sin and man would become eternally doomed. Satan twists the word of God to tempt Jesus. But Jesus defeats Satan by confronting him with the true word of God, and Satan departs defeated but unbowed, to prepare for another day.

Satan again schemes to murder the messiah. This plan involves Jesus’s disciple Judas Iscariot, and the Jewish religious leaders. Satan enters Judas and inspires him to make a deal with the religious leaders to betray Jesus to them for the price of a slave, thirty pieces of silver. Judas accepts, and Jesus is arrested, tried, scourged, and condemned under the Roman procurator Pontius Pilate. Even though Pilate pronounces him innocent of any crime, He is crucified on Thursday afternoon of April 2nd 33AD.

There must have been some blasphemous celebrations going on between Satan and his minions…. for a time. After all, they had won a great victory; they had succeeded in killing God’s son, they had changed the plan of God and made Him into a liar. Jesus would not be able to rule from Jerusalem as the scriptures promised. Satan and his followers were safe from their eternal banishment in hell. God would not dare to judge them as He was Himself proved to be a liar.

The Satanic celebrations were short lived. Satan had unwittingly done exactly as God had wanted. Far from being a defeat, Jesus’s crucifixion on the cross was the most important event in the history of the universe. It proved to be Satan’s ultimate downfall. The seed of the woman prophesized in Genesis chapter 3 had indeed crushed the head of the serpent. Man’s redemption was assured, and God had demonstrated to the universe that He was totally loving, fair and righteous. Sin’s price was totally paid for on that cross once for all, so that those who look upon that cross in faith and apply Jesus’s completed work to their lives, can be forgiven and declared righteous by God. Jesus raised Himself from the dead, proving that His sacrifice for sin was completed and accepted by God the father. He then some days later, after having appeared alive to many hundreds of witnesses, ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father. His work of salvation being completed; He now prays and makes intersession for us.

Satan is defeated, but he has not stopped in his rebellion against God. There is still a possible way out for Satan, or so he thinks. Turn to Matthew chapter 23:37-39. Jesus says "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. "Behold, your house is being left to you desolate!  "For I say to you, from now on you will not see me until you say, 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!'" The Jewish nation as a whole has rejected Jesus as the messiah, and He will not return to the Earth until they as a nation repent, and call for His return. This event is yet future, and is detailed in the book of Zechariah chapter 12. If Satan can prevent this from happening, he thinks that he will yet win in his epic war with God.

Satan tries to destroy the Jewish nation in 70 AD when the Roman legions under Titus arrive to put out a rebellion. Over one million Jews are killed, the temple destroyed, and the people are captured and disbursed throughout the Roman world. For those Muslims who are trying to rewrite history and claim that there was never a Jewish temple and no Jewish presence in Jerusalem; this event, the sacking of Jerusalem, is clearly preserved for us in stone in the arch of Titus that still exists in the city of Rome.

Now comes a period of almost two thousand years where the Jews are dispersed among the nations. They are a people that are despised and persecuted wherever they go. I think that by now you know why. Satan is busily at his work. There are attempts by many tyrants during this period to destroy once and for all the hated Jewish people, a people like no other. Many Kings and several Roman Catholic popes are complicit in their attempts to destroy God’s chosen people.

But none were as successful or as diabolical as Germany’s Third Reich under the leadership of Adolph Hitler. Hitler was inspired and empowered by Satan to exterminate nearly six million Jews in Europe alone. Satan had come close, but God enables the allied forces to defeat Nazi Germany in May of 1945, thus putting an end to the carnage.

This outrageous murder and mayhem perpetrated upon the Jewish people by Hitler’s Germany temporarily wounds the world’s conscience, and in May of 1948, fulfilling the prophecies in Ezekiel 36 and 37, the United Nations votes and grants the Jews the permission to form their own nation on a small part of their ancient ancestral homeland in Israel. The surrounding Arab nations, who hate the Jews, vastly outnumber and outgun Israel. They attack instantly in a so-called war of annihilation. But by the grace and power of God, the Jews not only survive this war in 1948, but they prosper, and defeat the Muslims armies in additional wars in 1956, 1967, 1973, and 1981.

So, we come to today. The Jews are in possession of the land of Israel and are not about to leave. The Muslim nations and almost all the rest of the nations of the world are against the Jews, and want to see the problem go away once and for all. Iran is seeking to acquire nuclear weapons to destroy Israel and every living Jew. Many international terror groups only reason for existing is to annihilate the Jewish people. The Middle East is in flames. Syria and Lebanon are ruined, and the Muslims bring hatred, murder, violence, and tyranny wherever they go.

Our former President, Barrack Hussein Obama, is at minimum a Muslim sympathizer, and hates the Jewish nation. Among other things, he is responsible for the so called Arab Spring which has inflamed the world in a firestorm of Islamic fundamentalism. President Obama also made a deal with Iran, Israel’s arch enemy, that was intended to ensure that they can develop and produce nuclear weapons to be used for the destruction of Israel.

But God decides who rules, and He has lifted up Donald Trump for His chosen servant. President Trump may not be a man of God, but like King Cyrus of old, he is God’s man. His miraculous election as President of the United States against all odds, has already born much fruit, including the moving of the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and abrogating the disastrous Iran agreement forced upon us by the executive fiat of Barack Obama’s pen. President Trump has demonstrated that he is a true friend to Israel, and is the most supportive President to Israel that Washington has ever seen. The tide of globalism is being reversed, and national sovereignty is replacing it, at least for now. I wait in anticipation to see what else God will use President Trump to accomplish.

The stage is set; the current geo political situation in which we find ourselves precisely matches that of the Last Days, predicted by the Hebrew prophets and our own Blessed Lord. The chess pieces are all placed on the board and waiting for the first move. We come again to where we began, 2 Thessalonians chapter 2:7. “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.” We long for the rapture of the church when God’s Holy Spirit in the believers is removed from this Earth. Then, as the scriptures tell us, all hell will break loose.

Globalism will be the final form of man’s government on this Earth. There will be one global currency, and there will be world government, with one man leading it. That man is the Antichrist. He will be assisted by his right-hand man, the False Prophet who is probably the current or some future pope. Satan is going to have his one last chance to destroy the Jewish people. During the last half of the seven-year tribulation period, he will enter the Antichrist, and through him enforce Satanic emperor worship. All those who will not worship the Antichrist, his image, or receive his mark, will not be able to buy or sell. They will be hunted down, and put to death. At this point, God pours out His wrath on a Christ rejecting world. This period, also called by scripture “the time of Jacob’s trouble,” is also ushered in by God to bring the nation of Israel to national repentance.

Regrettably, and with a heavy heart, I must tell you that the prophet Zechariah in chapter 13:8 predicts that during this last three and one half years, two thirds of the Jewish nation will be killed. But, one third will survive. When they are surrounded by their enemies, (the armies of all nations), and hopelessly outnumbered, they will finally recognize that Jesus is their long-awaited Messiah, and call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to save them. As Jesus prophesized, “You will not see me again until you say “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” Jesus physically returns to Earth during the so-called Battle of Armageddon, and destroys all the armies encamped against the Jews, with a word from His mouth. At the end of the seven-year tribulation period, the Antichrist and the False Prophet will be captured, and thrown alive into the lake of fire. Satan will be incarcerated, and put into a prison where he can do no harm for 1000 years. Jesus will rule and reign the entire world from his throne in the city of Jerusalem. The ecology of the world will be restored to an Eden like condition, and the lamb and the lion will lay down together in peace. Evil will not be winked at or tolerated. Jesus will also fulfill in total, all the promises of God given to the Nation of Israel.

After the millennial rule of Christ, Satan is let out of his prison, and incredibly again deceives the nations of the world to rebel against the rule of God. This rebellion is short-lived and is quickly put down. After this, the “Great White Throne Judgement” of the unbelievers takes place. All who find themselves at this judgement, are found to be guilty, for having rejected the salvation freely offered through Jesus Christ. They are judged by their deeds, and sent to eternal punishment in the lake of fire. After this terrible judgement, God lets loose His hold on the atoms of the current mass energy universe in which we live. The heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the Earth and its works will be burned up. At this point, the “Mystery of Lawlessness” is finished. Never again will evil exist. God creates a new Heaven and a new Earth, that is suitable for the days of eternity, perpetually filled with worship and righteousness.

So, what can we do with this information? We wait for our blessed hope, but we are not idle. We occupy, continuing to spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus the Christ. We are told in 1 Peter chapter 3 that we should “always be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” We can explain what is happening in this crazy world right now, and why. God’s word has revealed the future to us. The bible has been proved to be 100% accurate. We wait as pilgrims and aliens living in this world but not a part of it. As God’s ambassadors, we must not be ignorant of the schemes of the devil. He is a murderer, a liar, a deceiver; he is the author of confusion, false worship and religion. He has blinded the eyes of the unsaved; he is the prince of the power of the air, and the god of this world. We know that the flow of time that we call history and its events are all the result of a titanic spiritual battle still being waged between God and Satan. The outcome is not in doubt, God wins. Even though it looks like doom, gloom and chaos, God is in ultimate control, and He alone will bring these events to a good outcome at the end of this age.

In closing, we must follow Paul’s teaching of Ephesians 6, and put on the full armor of God. As Jude tells us, we must earnestly contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. We must realize that we too are subject to the mystery of lawlessness that is at work in each of us, in our flesh. We must put our sinful desires to death daily by dying to ourselves. We must witness and warn people of the soon coming of God’s righteous judgment on a Christ rejecting world, even if they do not believe us or want to hear it. We must walk in a manner worthy of the Lord fulfilling the Great Commission; knowing that our day of deliverance, is very nearly upon us. Let’s pray.
